Crucial DDR2100 RAM

As many of you will know, Crucial are a well established company who sell Memory only, and are very good at it. They make very high quality RAM which usually the overclockers choice. Crucial RAM always acheives good scores, and most if not all overclocking websites will stock it.

Crucial have sent me some 'Crucial 512MB DDR2100 CL2.5 RAM to test!

However, lets not get confused and think back to PC133, where 133MHz was what the RAM ran at in MHz. DDR2100 does not mean that this RAM runs at 2100MHz, 2100 simply refers to the memory's bandwidth which we will discuss later.

DDR means Double Data Rate, so if your FSB (Front Side Bus (RAM speed) is 133MHz, the DDR Bus takes it to an 'effective' 266MHz (133 x 2 = 266).

DDR is the replacement for SDR (Single Data Rate), where if your FSB was lets say 133MHz (using PC133) then that was that your FSB was stuck at.

Here's the DDR specification -

  • PC1600 - 1.6GB/sec bandwidth (DDR200 MHz, SDR100MHz)
  • PC2100 - 2.1GB/sec bandwidth (DDR266 MHz, SDR133MHz)
  • PC2400 - 2.4GB/sec bandwidth (DDR300 MHz, SDR150MHz)
  • PC2700 - 2.7GB/sec bandwidth (DDR333 MHz, SDR166MHz)
  • PC3000 - 3.0GB/sec bandwidth (DDR366 MHz, SDR183MHz)
  • PC3200 - 3.2GB/sec bandwidth (DDR400 MHz, SDR200MHz)

Here's a few pics of what I have recieved.

First, we have the box. Just big enough for the foam inserts and the RAM itself, and a little instruction manual for those who are fitting RAM for the first time. Obviously the foam will ensure that your RAM gets to you in perfect condition. Personally I have ordered from Crucial many times and every time the content of my packages has been perfect!
